March in Toronto is that beautiful, chaotic stretch where winter starts to loosen its grip and the city comes alive with events, festivals, and reasons to actually leave the house. Here's our curated guide to the best things happening this month.

Sugar Shack TO — March 14–15

Harbourfront Centre's annual maple celebration is back, and it's free. Sugar Shack TO brings the sugar bush to the city with classic Canadian treats — think maple taffy on snow, pancake stacks, and butter tarts — alongside live music and family-friendly activities right on the waterfront. This is one of the best free events during March Break weekend, and it fills up fast.

Lumière: The Art of Light — Until March 27

This free outdoor exhibition at Trillium Park features stunning light installations under the theme "Rhythms of Light: Motion, Sound, and Time." It's a gorgeous after-dark walk that combines art, technology, and the lakefront in a way that feels genuinely special. Best visited after sunset — dress warm.

Winter Stations — Until March 29

Woodbine Beach transforms once again with temporary art installations that reimagine the lifeguard stations along the shore. This year's installations feature work from artists around the world, and it's free to explore anytime. Bring a coffee and make an afternoon of it.

Sharks at the ROM — Until March 22

The Royal Ontario Museum's family-friendly shark exhibition dives deep into shark behaviour, habitat, and history, featuring everything from tiger sharks to great whites. It's a hit with kids and surprisingly engaging for adults. If you're looking for a March Break activity, this is one of the best options in the city.

St. Patrick's Parade — March 15

Toronto's St. Patrick's Parade returns to downtown with marching bands, floats, and city-wide green-tinted celebrations. The parade route runs through the heart of the city, and the surrounding neighbourhood bars and restaurants will be packed. Get there early for a good spot.

Maple Leafs Home Games

For hockey fans, March brings several home games at Scotiabank Arena. Circle March 17 (vs. New York Islanders, 7 p.m.) and March 20 (vs. Carolina Hurricanes, 7 p.m.) on your calendar.

Puppet Festival Mississauga — March Break

Just outside the city, this festival offers world-class puppetry shows, outdoor pop-ups, hands-on workshops, and even a puppet day camp for kids. It's a hidden gem for families looking for something different during the break.

Whether you're into art, food, sports, or just getting outside after a long winter, March 2026 has something for everyone. See you out there, Toronto.
